About the BS
The Bimbler’s Sound has grown out of a group of runners who regularly meet to socialize, run and generally have fun. As more is known about the personalities who regularly run with us, a nickname is ‘developed’. The lucky ones get to choose their own - the others... [Read more...]
Race Reports
Diamond Hill and some other fun stuff
Okay, how is one brief when you pack a 22.5k race, major shopping , a run up and down the most climbed mountain in the USA and a taste of a Grand Tree 50k course into one report? I will do my best.
First, the Grand Tree series Diamond Hill 22.5K
Shellygirl and I arrived about 1 hour ahead of the start. The Diamond Hill/ Birchwold 22k was the first step in our annual fall get-a-way. We knew it would be an interesting race when we went up to the Haunted House ticket booth to register. Great shirts and a race day entry fee of $20 made us feel like we got our monies worth before we even started. [Read more...]
Guthrie’s view from the Traveller
The strange noises at the beginning are animal sounds played over the PA. Plus I think the RD was addressing me directly at the begining (shame I didn’t listen)!
Breakneck 2008
8:00 Sunday morning. Shellygirl and I drove up to the Killingworth traffic circle to meet Iggy and Ticket at the commuter parking lot and then head up to tackle the Breakneck 20K. It seems Iggy had a rough night, unfortunately all work related, and decided to skip the festivities. She still met us just to say she was not going. What a good girl!
Shortly after 8 we began the hour drive up to Bigelow State Park to tackle one of the more interesting races around. The three of us have all had some previous experience with races in this part of the world, with Shellygirl and I having run the Nipmuck and the Northen Nipmuck races and Shellygirl and Ticket running the Breakneck last year. Last Great Bite of the Bluff and more..
Saturday October 11th saw a final big Bite of the Bluff take place before pre-race tapering starts. Various chunks of the course were nibbled on from a complete start to finish meal, to mid-section snacks. To add to the race director’s stress, everyone reported getting lost at some stage despite carrying maps or directions! So, to anyone worried about getting lost on race day - I suggest you memorize the faces in the picture and remember NOT to follow any of them. Sometimes ‘home advantage’ isn’t necessarily a good thing! [Read more...]
The 2008 Pew(wave hand in front of face)litsir Awards!!!
The Pews are coming in November….. the committee is finalizing the date as we speak/write.
Please send your nominations for the 2008 Pew(wave hand in front of face)litsir awards to the committee ASAP!!!! Remember these trophies are awarded to individuals for various categories of achievements that do not include running generally! That’s right, these are journalistic awards usually given for extreme contributions of humor or for anything really embarrassing - especially if it happens while another Bimbler is able to bear witness in some way. If you are new to this tremendous honor you might have to ask a fellow Bimbler how the committee’s selection process works. [Read more...]
Anecdotes
An Overnighter
It is hard to believe, but it has been 2 years since our last “official” Bimbler multi-day training run, the renowned Mohawk-AT Fastpack of 2006. Hence, some, particularly Ultra, were itching to recreate the experience. In an effort to cast a wider net, he planned a less aggressive and more casual run, with a minimum of running whilst wearing heavy packs, and a somewhat limited number of undulations. Still, it is the fall marathon season, and it is a Grand Slam year, etc… so it was difficult to get a large group together. In the end, there were only four of us who hit the trail: Ultra, me, Lamb, and Fruit Punch. [Read more...]
