THOSE OLD RUNNING SHOES
There’s a pair of old running shoes that sit on the stairs. worn down by the roads and beginning to tear The model sometimes change but to me they’re still the same pair.
They move up and down With out making a sound Seem to always be there like an old trusted friend.
I’ve read a lot of books and heard many tales Looked at my life where it’s going where it’s gone I’ve seen the world through the years But nothing compares… To the way that I see it in those old running shoes.
In those shoes I’ve seen sunrise and sunsets. Watched boats sail in and out of the bay. Those shoes were there when my kids woke up in the night Took me where I wanted to go before the next morning’s light.
I’ve lost many things that took a piece of my heart Prayed many times for forgiveness and a brand new start.
I’ve read a lot of books and heard many tales Looked at my life where it’s going where it’s gone I’ve seen the world through the years But nothing compares… To the way that I see it in those old running shoes.
Those shoes where they’re laying low by the firelight Listening to guitars on a rainy night. Staring at me after another trip around the sun. Had dreams come true right there in those old running shoes.
There’s a pair of old running shoes That sit on the stairs worn down by the roads and beginning to tear.
